Synopsis

From acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar comes the story of Manuela (Cecilia Roth in a multi-award winning performance), a single mother, who after the tragic death of her beloved teenage son, leaves Madrid for her old haunts in Barcelona in search of the father, who is now a transvestite named Lola and does not know he has a child. Manuela reunites with her old friend, the transvestite prostitute Agrado, finds work with as the personal assistant to famous actress Humo Rojo and befriends Rosa, a pregnant nun (Penelope Cruz, star of Almodovar’s Volver and Broken Embraces), who charges her with raising her baby… bringing Manuela full circle.
